XENTRY Pass Thru EU

Who is the XENTRY Pass Thru EU diagnostic solution for?

In line with the EC Directives (715/2007, 692/2008, 595/2009, 582/2011, 64/2012 and 2018/858), we offer independent market participants a special diagnostics solution for standard PCs: XENTRY Pass Thru EU.

The operation of this XENTRY Diagnosis variant does not require any XENTRY Diagnosis Kit 4 hardware or XENTRY Diagnosis VCI.

What is the functional and diagnostic scope of XENTRY Pass Thru EU?

XENTRY Pass Thru EU is the statutory open-shell variant of XENTRY Diagnosis for independent market participants for vehicle diagnostics used with standard PC and customary Pass Thru device. It offers a nearly complete range of diagnostics functions (quick test, basic diagnostics, flashing & coding of control units, read/clear fault memory, guided and functional diagnostics) with the exception of technical limitations due to the Pass Thru devices:

  • Quick test and functional diagnostics (only single-channel thus longer uptime)

  • Basic diagnostics only in XENTRY Diagnosis

  • Initial start-up (flashing, coding, parameterising)

  • Diagnosis available for:

    • All passenger car series certified to Euro 5 or 6 standards (Mercedes-Benz and smart), please see the note below regarding DoIP

    • All van series certified to Euro 5 or 6 standards (Mercedes-Benz), please see the note below regarding DoIP

    • All purely battery powered electric vehicles (BEVs) (Mercedes-Benz), please see the note below about DoIP

  • XENTRY Flash available for all model series certified for Euro 5 and Euro 6, as well as purely battery powered electric vehicles (BEVs)

  • Symptom processing by standardized symptoms

  • No integration of XENTRY Tips, EPC and WIS/ASRA

  • Diagnosis over IP (Ethernet) “DoIP” generally available if Pass Thru device supports DoIP; otherwise no flashing of Headunit and Instrument Cluster for present PC and Van model series up to the introduction of model series 206 and 223

Please note: For pure DoIP model series (with the introduction of model series 206 and 223), these adapters can be operated:

These adapters have been tested by Mercedes-Benz AG and must only be used with XENTRY Pass Thru exclusively for DoIP model series. Mercedes-Benz AG is not liable for any other adapters.

• Pass Thru device: freely available on the market, must fulfil the Pass Thru standard (please see further below for recommended devices)

Please note:
XENTRY Pass Thru EU does not support vehicles other than the above mentioned model series and model types. Should you require full diagnostics capability for all model series and model types, please use the standard diagnostics solution XENTRY Diagnosis Kit 4.

What is included in the scope of delivery of XENTRY Pass Thru EU?

The initial order of XENTRY Pass Thru EU includes a download link with user documentation for Basic Setup installation on Windows PCs with service updates throughout the contract term. A contract number, a StartKey and time credits are required for the use of the software.

For the first contract year, a flat user fee is billed for software usage and support. After the first year, the subscription to XENTRY Pass Thru EU can be renewed one year at a time by paying another annual flat user fee. This entitles you to receive continued regular updates of applications and data and to use the online services as well as user support.

Important note:
Please note that XENTRY Pass Thru EU can only be ordered by users with a registered office in the European Union, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Switzerland, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

What are the system requirements for XENTRY Pass Thru EU?

A special hardware-dependent StartKey is required for the use of XENTRY Pass Thru EU, which can only be ordered in the Mercedes-Benz B2B Connect after receiving the initial delivery. The hardware ID required for ordering the StartKey can be read via the tool "ConfigAssist"; the system or contract number also required for XENTRY Pass Thru EU can be obtained from Mercedes-Benz B2B Connect “My Workshop” > “My Applications” > “XENTRY Pass Thru EU” > “Overview of your systems & credits”.

The StartKey enables certain end devices such as laptop computers to run the diagnostics application when you use the unique hardware ID for ordering. The end device must meet the following system requirements:

  • Administrator rights for installation and updates

  • Windows-compatible PC or laptop with at minimum Intel I5 CPU or comparable model

  • Operating system: Windows 10 (64 Bit) or Windows 11 (64 Bit)

  • Minimum 8 GB memory (RAM), 16 GB is recommended

  • Minimum 150 GB available hard drive space, SSD hard drive is recommended (due to performance and mechanical durability)

  • Browser: Edge for Windows

  • Broadband internet connection via LAN/WLAN

  • Microsoft .NET 4.0 (or higher) installed (http://www.microsoft.com)

What is the new compulsory login procedure from 2021?

With Release 06/2020, a strict security concept was implemented to secure diagnostic access and backend services. Since then, a personalized login is required for model series 213 model year 2020 and 223.

In 2021, this security level will be extended to all brands and divisions, i.e. all diagnostic users must log in personally onto the diagnostic system. This means that anonymous access to vehicles and backend services is no longer possible.

From Release 09/2021, you generally need the Standard Diagnosis Role for diagnosis activities. The new, extended XENTRY Flash role is required for CU commissioning.

You can also find further information on the XENTRY Pass Thru EU product page.

What are the usage instructions for the online connection for XENTRY Pass Thru EU?

A permanent online connection is required to use the diagnostics contents:

  • for the retrieval of diagnostics data (for each diagnostics session)

  • to check access rights to data content (StartKey)

  • to check contractual data

Do I always need to be online when running the diagnostics for standard PCs?

Yes. XENTRY Pass Thru EU is an online diagnostics solution per se. When starting XENTRY Pass Thru EU application, access rights and application data are reconciled. This check fails without an online connection and XENTRY cannot be started. In addition, when opening the diagnostics from the XENTRY frame, the available time credits of the user account are retrieved online. If the credit cannot be verified online, the diagnostics cannot be opened.

With which Pass Thru device can I operate XENTRY Pass Thru EU?

In general, the Pass Thru device must fulfill the Pass Thru standards. It is freely available on the market. The following Pass Thru devices have been tested and are recommended for XENTRY Pass Thru by Mercedes-Benz Group AG:

  • Actia Passthru+ XS 2G

  • Bosch KTS 560

  • ADIS Technology EURO VCI

What needs to be considered when changing devices (PC, laptop, tablet) for the operation of XENTRY Pass Thru EU/XENTRY Diagnosis Lite?

Due to a new PC/laptop/tablet, the current start key of a XENTRY Pass Thru EU/XENTRY Diagnosis Lite no longer works.
The hardware ID associated with the startup key needs to be changed.

To do this, follow these steps:

  • Log in to B2B Connect and navigate to "Account" > "Licenses"

  • Under "Active Licenses", select the system in question, e.g. XENTRY Pass Thru EU.

  • Click "Change" next to the hardware ID

  • Then enter the new hardware ID and confirm with "Save".

Once the change is complete, the system is associated to the new hardware ID. You will receive an automated email confirming the change.

What is the usage fee and billing for XENTRY Pass Thru EU?

The use of XENTRY Pass Thru EU requires payment of a yearly flat user fee. Access to diagnostics data incurs additional costs based on time.

  • Billing for the use of diagnostics data and application

  • Time-based billing of a flat user fee for online operating costs and support

  • Time credits for diagnostics data can be purchased in different amounts

  • For billing modalities and the prices for the flat user fee and time credits, please visit the XENTRY Pass Thru EU product page

  • The initial order, follow-up order and ordering time credit processes are described under "Registering and ordering"

What should I bear in mind when using XENTRY Flash with XENTRY Pass Thru EU?

The use of XENTRY Flash within XENTRY Diagnostics EU (for existing customers) and XENTRY Pass Thru EU is password-protected. A XENTRY Flash user authorisation is required for every individual diagnostics user in order to gain access. Please get in touch with your market-specific contact person to apply for XENTRY Flash user authorisation.

What are the contract terms for XENTRY Pass Thru EU?

XENTRY Pass Thru EU is initially available for 12 months for an annual flat user fee. The contract ends automatically after this time, but can renewed for one year at a time with the payment of additional annual flat user fees.

Why do I have to purchase time credits for diagnostics data in addition to paying flat user fees for XENTRY Pass Thru EU?

The diagnostics time credits pay for the actual time for which you use the diagnostics contents. This means the costs incurred by users are based on their usage rather than being a flat fee. Thus, the flat user fees covering all the fixed costs such as administration, distribution and permanent support availability, can be kept low.

How can I find out my current "time credit status"?

Your remaining current time credit – for the selected vehicle division – is displayed each time you open the diagnostics (start of diagnostics in the XENTRY frame).

Your time credit status is also indicated in the Mercedes-Benz B2B Connect under “My Workshop” > “Applications” > “XENTRY Pass Thru EU” > “Overview of your systems & credits”.

How does the consumption of time credits work?

The status of the diagnostics time credits is checked every time the diagnostics are started from the XENTRY frame for a specific vehicle. If no "partially used" time credit exists, the next available time credit is used. The time credit starts running continuously from that moment, even if the diagnostics or XENTRY are shut down. As an example, if the diagnosis only takes a few minutes and XENTRY is then closed, a one hour credit will only last for the hour following activation. If you try to start the diagnostics after the hour has passed it will activate a new time credit. If your time credit runs out during a diagnostics session, the diagnostics can still be continued until the next vehicle change.

Who can I contact with questions concerning my time credits?

For business-related questions (such as StartKey, diagnostics time credits), please contact Sales Support at xentry.customer.support@mercedes-benz.com.

What does "fixed and variable price component" mean?

The subscription to XENTRY Pass Thru EU comprises both a fixed and a variable price component.

Fixed price component

  • Product-specific annual flat user fee for online operating costs and the use of support services

Variable price component

  • Consumption of the purchased time credit units for the use of diagnostics data

  • Automatic management of the use time credits (by the diagnostics application)

  • A credit unit is activated when the diagnostics system is opened and continues to run until it expires even after having ended the diagnostics session or after having changed vehicles

Please note:
Unfortunately, any time credits purchased by mistake or that are no longer required cannot be returned or refunded. Unused or not started time credits also cannot be refunded at the end of the contract period. However, your credit will be transferred if you renew the contract.

Model series and models not certified to Euro 5, Euro 6 or Euro VI standards (e.g. passenger cars W210 or commercial vehicles Euro VI), are not included in XENTRY Pass Thru EU.

The full diagnostics range for all model series is only possible with the standard solution XENTRY Diagnosis Kit 4.

Does XENTRY Pass Thru EU support Diagnosis over IP (DoIP)?
